Wellness Classes

The HCGH Wellness Center provides outreach and education to the Howard County community. Located right near the hospital in the new Medical Pavilion at Howard County (10710 Charter Dr, Suite 100), the Wellness Center offers a wide range of classes, screenings and fitness programs both in the Wellness Center and in community settings throughout the area ranging from CPR instruction to child and adult safety classes to diet and nutrition counseling. You can reach the Wellness Center at 410-740-7601 or search for classes on our website.
Childbirth and New Parent Education
One of the happiest moments in a woman’s life is when she gives birth to a child. The Wellness Center provides detailed instruction and guidance to help individuals prepare for labor and delivery as well as post partum expectations and care. Additionally, prenatal programs provide nutrition and healthy pregnancy information and subsequent classes are available on helpful child-rearing topics, such as infant massage, soothing a crying baby and positive parenting. Search for classes or view a list of class descriptions.

For siblings, please consider enrolling your child(ren) in the "I’m Going to be a Big Brother/Sister Class" at the Howard County Library. For information, visit the Howard County Library website or call 410-313-7713.
Health Screenings
In a vast majority of diseases, patients fare better when the disease is detected early. The Wellness Center provides a number of screenings to determine if a person is at risk for such things as high blood pressure, various types of cancer and mental health issues as well as diabetes and osteoporosis.
Community Clinics
As part of an ongoing partnership with The Mall in Columbia, Howard County General Hospital hosts quarterly clinics at the mall. Each clinic features a related presentation by local physician as well as informational booths and screening opportunities. A Cardiovascular Clinic is held in February, with a Fitness and Sports Medicine Clinic in May. A Healthy Kids Clinic is held in August, just in time for back to school, and a Cancer Prevention and Early Detection Clinic is held in October.
