The Heart Hype screening event evaluates teens for their risk of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) — a rare but deadly heart condition. Each year, there are several news stories on seemingly healthy athletes who suddenly die due to this condition, including NBA players Reggie Lewis, Jason Collier, and Kevin Duckworth, as well as long-distance runner Ryan Shay. Unless properly screened for, this condition is virtually undetectable until it is too late. Early screening and prevention is key to controlling this condition.
Thank you for everyone who made the 2012 Heart Hype event a success. We look forward to seeing you again next year!
