We mourn the passing of Art Modell, a cherished friend of Johns Hopkins Medicine for many years. Beyond his stellar career as a leader in professional football, he also had a passion for supporting our physicians in their efforts to improve health care.
Mr. Modell chaired the first advisory board of our Heart Center and was a key community advocate for Johns Hopkins Medicine.
He was one of the earliest donors for our new patient care building that opened on May 1, 2012. The cardiology, cardiac surgery and vascular surgery units located in the Sheikh Zayed Tower of the new building are named the Art and Pat Modell Heart and Vascular Institute. Mr. Modell also endowed a chair in the Department of Surgery at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, which is held by Stephen Yang, M.D.
Our sincere condolences go to Mr. Modell’s family. We will always be grateful for his generosity and his interest in our mission to improve the health care of people in Baltimore and throughout the world.
