The Johns Hopkins Hospital
The Johns Hopkins Hospital opened in 1889, followed four years later by the School of Medicine, revolutionizing medical practice, teaching, and research in the United States.
Recognized as one of the top hospitals in the Unted States, this academic medical center is home to the Brady Urological Institute, the Kimmel Cancer Center, the Wilmer Eye Institute and the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center.
Emergency Medicine, one of the youngest academic departments at Hopkins, was recognized as an independent academic department within the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 1994.
The majority of the residency off-service rotations and approximately half of the Emergency Medicine rotations are conducted at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, taking advantage of the depth of resources and teaching available at this world-recognized institution. The Johns Hopkins Hospital is designated a Level I Trauma Center and is the regional pediatric trauma center and eye trauma center for the State of Maryland
The Sheikh Zayed Tower and The Charlotte R. Bloomberg Children's Center opened May 1, 2012 to provide state-of-the-art facilities and services for patients, families and visitors.
These new facilities include separate Emergency Department for children and adults.
