Dr. Thanner joined CEPAR in the fall of 2006 to help establish and document plans and procedures for the CEPAR Operations Command Center and the daily Situation Awareness and Monitoring Station (SAMS), a data fusion operations center designed to monitor, gather, analyze and disseminate information related to medical/public health events. She is also a project manager for PACER, responsible for oversight and management of the Educational Domain of the project, which includes five separate projects related to understanding issues and principles of preparedness and the science of education. She has experience in conducting a broad range of social science research projects, both qualitative and quantitative, and has either served as Principal Investigator or Project Director on projects related to the design and delivery of substance abuse treatment for criminal populations, the provision of faith-based services to underserved populations, and the impact of diversion programs on juvenile and adult drug offenders. Most recently, she concluded an extensive ethnographic case study of the impact of the closing of a local military base on the community. She has authored or co-authored seven published articles, a book chapter, and has been awarded two federally funded grants.
