Dr. Jung is a dedicated medical educator, and directs all medical student programs for the Department of Emergency Medicine at Johns Hopkins. The basic clerkship in EM is required for all Hopkins students, and under Dr. Jung’s direction, is has consistently received the the highest student ratings of any core clerkship experience at Hopkins. Dr Jung has recently received a faculty development award to introduce high-fidelity simulation into the medical student curriculum in EM, and looks forward to using this exciting modality to better prepare her students to handle the emergency situations they will encounter in residency and beyond. In addition to her work in the EM clerkships, Dr. Jung also serves as academic advisor and mentor for all Hopkins students planning careers in Emergency Medicine. She also teaches and develops curricula for courses throughout the institution, including Wilderness Medicine, “TRIPLE,” and the Disaster Medicine selective.
Dr. Jung’s scholarly interests in medical education center around acquisition of acute care knowledge and skills by medical students, with an emphasis on the use of simulation as a teaching method. She also has a strong interest in urban health issues and underserved populations. She is co-director of the Hopkins ED HIV Testing Program, and leads regular resident and provider education programs on HIV counseling, testing, and referral. She has also contributed to several health services research projects, and is currently working on an analysis of patterns of ED utilization by uninsured and underinsured patients.
