Dr. Jensen spent several years after residency practicing Internal Medicine as a hospitalist and a primary care physician in a local community practice. She started working at the UCC in 9/03. In July, 2006, she became “the first in the nation” Legal Medicine Fellow in the Emergency Department under the mentorship of Frederick Levy, MD, JD. In this capacity, she has worked with medical malpractice plaintiff and defense attorneys, JHH risk management and claims departments, and taken a course in “Legal Issues in Medicine”. Dr. Jensen is also well versed and has extensive experience in the area of medical malpractice review. With this training, she is acquiring skills to educate her colleagues on current strategies to prevent significant medical errors and litigation in the high-risk arena of the Emergency Department, in particular improving and streamlining provider documentation. She is currently working on developing a technology-based, multi-disciplinary risk management program for the Emergency Department that will utilize methodologies that focus on safety, efficiency and efficacy. She also intends to publish a retrospective cohort study on “Reasons why Patients Leave the Emergency Department Against Medical Advice” with Dr. Melissa McCarthy by the end of the first year of the fellowship.
