Dr. James Corwin is the new Medical Director of the UCC. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry/Biology at Boston University College of Liberal Arts in 1979 and received his Medical degree, Commonwealth Scholar, at Boston University School of Medicine in 1983. He then did his Family Practice Residency at the Columbia University affiliated, Overlook Hospital in Summit, NJ in 1986.
Dr. Corwin began his career as a Senior Physician at Kent Island Family Care in 1989 and as Medical Director of Choptank Community Health Systems, Inc. from 1986-1997. Dr. Corwin also worked briefly at Baltimore Medical Systems, Inc. as the Interim Clinical Director. He continued his career as the Center Medical Director for Baltimore Medical System, Inc. for the next several years and then worked as interim Chief Medical Officer from 1998-1999. Dr. Corwin also served as Patient Management Medical Director with Aetna/US Healthcare Capital Region and has worked on our faculty, part time, at Johns Hopkins University Bayview in the Emergency Department fast track.
Dr. Corwin has campaigned for the US House of Representatives and was the Democratic nominee for the US House in 2006. He has received numerous awards and recognitions throughout his career. In 1996 his accomplishments earned him Clinical Director of the Year, Mid-Atlantic Association of Community Health Centers. He is the founder of the Family Health Education Foundation and was nominated for the Maryland Family Physician of the Year in 1999.
