Dr. Atha joined the faculty in 1999 as a Staff Emergency Physician. He completed his training in the Emergency Medicine Residency Program at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in 1998. He is currently the Vice Chair of Emergency Medicine at Howard County General Hospital. Dr. Atha has a special interest in infectious disease, particularly HIV-related diseases. Focusing on medical informatics, he was co-creator and first medical director of Hopkins POC-IT and Antibiotics Guide, and holds an appointment in the Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases.
Dr. Atha's other primary interest is classical piano performance. He has been a soloist with the University of Washington Orchestra and Seattle Philharmonic Orchestra and has performed piano recitals at the Dutch and Austrian Embassies and at Alexander House in Washington, D.C.
