Nurse Practitioner and Certified Diabetes EducatorErica Hall, Nurse Practitioner and Certified Diabetes Educator, is an exciting addition to our Diabetes Center team. She has been employed here at Johns Hopkins Hospital for 10 years and now sees patients regularly as a member of our Diabetes Center staff.
Erica has always been passionate about diabetes with a particular interest in providing culturally competent diabetes care. “It is important that we recognize the impact that culture has on self-care management in diabetes. By better understanding of different cultural practices, my hope is to provide care that will lead to improvement in individual self –management behaviors and health outcomes.”
Erica is the diabetes nurse practitioner for the Johns Hopkins Islet Auto Transplant Program and has a particular interest in diabetes occurring after pancreatic surgery. In addition to the clinic setting, Ms. Hall also sees patients who are admitted to the hospital for consultative diabetes care during their hospitalization.

Nurse PractitionerCaitlin Nass is an adult nurse practitioner with the Hopkins Diabetes Center. Her clinical focus is on disease management, education, and health promotion for patients with diabetes. She is passionate about improving diabetes care for patients, so she combines her clinical practice with community education and professional outreach.
In addition to patient care, she is active in the education of future nurses, champions quality improvement initiatives, and has participated in clinical research. She has authored articles on cardiac risk assessment, cardiac risk reduction, and chronic kidney disease. She earned both her BSN and MSN at the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing.

Nurse Practitioner and Certified Diabetes EducatorSusan Renda, a nurse practitioner and Certified Diabetes Educator, is a huge asset here at the Diabetes Center. She worked for 19 years in a multi-specialty group practice, becoming a Certified Diabetes Educator in 1994, before joining us in 2008. Susan meets with patients for one-on-one appointments at the Center, as well as helps with our one day and two day group education classes.
One of Susan’s goals when meeting with her patients is to empower them with the knowledge and skills necessary achieve a healthy and happy life with diabetes. She hopes to minimize the complications and maximize their personal well-being. “I would like to see the myths about diabetes erased so that people with the disease and their families can clearly see the actual challenges and be able to seek the help they need to overcome those challenges.”
Susan also teaches at the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing.

Eugene Arnold, M.S., RD/LD/CDE
Clinical Dietitian Specialist, Certified Diabetes Educator
Gene Arnold is a registered dietitian/nutritionist and certified diabetes educator at the Johns Hopkins diabetes center. His interest in nutrition began as a student athlete at Trinity College (CT) where he earned his undergraduate degree in psychology. He went on to complete his M.S. at Montclair State University in nutrition education with a minor in food science. Gene completed his dietetic internship at the University Of Oklahoma Health Science Center in 2016 and joined the inpatient nutrition team at Johns Hopkins hospital later that year. He has been with the Johns Hopkins Diabetes center since January of 2019.
Gene also serves as the quality coordinator for the center's diabetes self-management training (DSMT) program. His main areas of interest include health behavior change, mobile health technology and telehealth.
