Background

Dr. Rakhi Naik is the Associate Director for Hematology for the Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Program and is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Johns Hopkins University. She received her undergraduate degree in Biomedical & Electrical Engineering from Duke University and her M.D. with Honors in Research from Cornell University. She then completed her Internal Medicine Residency and Hematology Fellowship training at Johns Hopkins, where she also served as Assistant Chief of Service (Chief Resident). Dr. Naik has additionally received a Masters in Health Science (MHS) from the Graduate Training Program in Clinical Investigation at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

Dr. Naik's research, educational, and clinical interests are focused on non-malignant hematologic disorders.  Her primary research expertise is in sickle cell trait and sickle cell disease.  Specifically, her research focuses on chronic kidney disease in sickle cell trait and venous thromboembolism in sickle cell disease. 

Dr. Naik is an active member of the American Society of Hematology (ASH) Committee on Training and serves on the ASH Recruitment and Retention Workforce, which aims to increase trainee recruitment into non-malignant hematology. In her role as Associate Program Director for Hematology, she runs one of the only single-board hematology fellowship programs in the United States.

Dr. Naik specializes in the treatment of adult patients with wide-array of blood and bone marrow disorders. Her primary focus is caring for patients with coagulation disorders such as abnormal bleeding and clotting, immune cytopenias such as ITP, AIHA, and TTP, hemoglobinopathies, myeloproliferative neoplasms and myeloid disorders.
