Dr. M. Diane E. Griffin is a professor of infectious diseases and of neurology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Her research focuses on viral diseases. Dr. Griffin is the Alfred and Jill Sommer Professor and Chair in the Department of Molecular Microbiology and Immunology at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
Her team is currently investigating how measles virus infection suppresses the immune system.
Dr. Griffin received her M.D. and Ph.D. from Stanford University.
She was the founding director of the Johns Hopkins Malaria Research Institute and past president of the American Society for Virology, the Association of Medical School Microbiology Chairs and the American Society for Microbiology. She currently serves as vice president of the National Academies of Science.
