Background

Seamus Whelton, MD, MPH, joins the Johns Hopkins Medicine Division of Cardiology as an Assistant Professor, focusing primarily on prevention and cardiac CT.

Dr. Whelton completed his undergraduate studies at Princeton University followed by a Masters of Public Health in Epidemiology at the Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. He then received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, where he also completed internal medicine residency training. He went on to complete a post-doctoral fellowship at the Welch Center for Prevention, Epidemiology and Clinical Research at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. He then completed his cardiology training as a fellow within the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and Division of Cardiology.

Dr. Whelton’s primary research interest is the prevention of cardiovascular disease.  In particular he is interested in the use of cardiac CT imaging for risk prediction, examining the competing risks of cardiovascular and non-cardiovascular disease, and how aging impacts cardiovascular risk prediction.
