Background

Dr. Gourishetti is a fellow and clinical instructor in the Division of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. He grew up in Boston, Massachusetts, and received his Bachelor of Science in Physiology and Neurobiology at the University of Maryland, College Park where he received the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) Undergraduate Research Fellowship. He graduated Cum Laude with University Honors and was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Honors Society. He went on to receive his medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine. There he served as the president of his class and received the William Gray, MD Award for Outstanding Student in Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery.

Dr. Gourishetti completed a 5-year residency program in Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Maryland Medical Center. There, Dr. Gourishetti honed his clinical and surgical skills in head and neck surgery and continued to pursue his longstanding interest in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery. Throughout his training, Dr. Gourishetti has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and book chapters and traveled throughout the country presenting his research at national and international meetings. He was awarded the prestigious Charles Ferguson Clinical Research Award by the American Society of Pediatric Otolaryngology for his presentation at the National Combined Otolaryngology Spring Meetings 2021. For his extensive research endeavors, he received the Duane A. Sewell, MD Resident Research Award. Dr. Gourishetti’s research interests currently include the role of AI and machine learning in Facial Plastic Surgery and in improving healthcare delivery both in our local communities and globally. He is passionate about improving access to facial plastic surgery worldwide including specialized care in facial paralysis, head and neck cancer reconstruction, and congenital cleft lip and palate. 

At Johns Hopkins, Dr. Gourishetti will continue to provide excellent care in all domains of facial plastic and reconstructive surgery including facial reanimation to treat facial paralysis, aesthetic surgery for facial aging including facelifts, blepharoplasty, Botox, fillers and laser therapy, rhinoplasty, Mohs reconstruction, head and neck reconstruction, facial trauma surgery, congenital cleft lip and palate surgery and craniofacial surgery. 

Dr. Gourishetti has dedicated his training and career to surgical and non-surgical treatments of the face. He understands how important the face is to one’s sense of self and quality of life.
