Background

Renan C. Castillo, Ph.D., is an associate professor of health policy and management at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, where he received his doctoral training. He also has a joint appointment at the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

Dr. Castillo is a health services researcher with expertise in the study of disability and trauma outcomes and extensive experience coordinating multi-institutional studies in the trauma setting.

Dr. Castillo has published on pain and rehabilitation outcomes following trauma, as well as treatment, psychologic and demographic predictors of clinical recovery, functional outcome and patient satisfaction. He has worked closely with clinicians in projects ranging from the assessment of diagnostic tests in sports medicine to the evaluation of tomographic imaging approaches following severe trauma.
