Dr. Oliver Monfredi is a cardiologist in Baltimore, Maryland and an Assistant Professor at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Dr. Monfredi is an electrophysiologist, specializing in the care of patients with arrhythmias and complex devices. 

Dr. Monfredi treats patients with abnormal heart rhythms. He performs complex catheter ablations, as well as pacemaker and defibrillator implantation and complex extraction procedures. Dr. Monfredi is skilled in the management and treatment of complex device issues. He leads outpatient device services and co-directs lead and device extraction services. 

Dr. Monfredi earned both his BSc in Clinical Sciences and Pathology, followed by his MBChB degree from the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom. He obtained his Ph.D. in cellular electrophysiology from the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom, during which he spent a significant amount of time at the Laboratory of Cardiovascular Sciences within the Intramural Research Program of the NIH's Aging Institute in Baltimore, Maryland. Following his medical degree, he embarked on his training within the National Health Service of the United Kingdom. He completed his subspecialty training in Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology in 2017, and moved to Baltimore where he undertook an advanced fellowship in EP at Johns Hopkins, focusing on complex device management, device and lead extraction, and complex ablation. 

Dr. Monfredi’s research has focused on the fundamental mechanisms underlying the generation and propagation of the heartbeat in health, and what goes wrong when this fails, in association with a variety of disease states including heart failure, obesity and athletic training. He has worked to develop biological pacemakers as a replacement for the currently used electronic pacemakers. He has also worked in the field of predictive analytics and artificial intelligence in cardiology, using his expertise to employ heart rhythm analyses to predict and prevent clinical deterioration in patients.
