JHU's Corporate and Foundation Relations maintains a Web site listing upcoming grant competitions that are sponsored by foundations and other private sources: http://jhuresearch.jhu.edu/OCFR.htm. They are in addition to the limited-submission RFPs periodically announced by the Research Projects Administration office. U.S. Dept. of Defense Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs - Breast Cancer Research Program for 2011

Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed non-skin cancer in women. It is estimated that about 1,970 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year. Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in women in the United States. Approximately 39,840 women and 390 men are projected to die from breast cancer this year.

The U.S. Department of Defense Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs has recently announced five new special funding opportunities in the battle against breast cancer. U.S. Dept. of Defense (DOD) Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs - Ovarian Cancer Research Program for 2011

The DoD Ovarian Cancer Research Program (OCRP) is administered through the U.S. Army Medical Research and Material Commend (USAMRMC) through the Office of the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP). A brief synopsis of each funding opportunity in this program is listed below. More detailed descriptions of these opportunities, the evaluation criteria, and submission requirements are available on the CDMRP website located at http://cdmrp.army.mil.

The Pilot Award - supports conceptually innovative, high-risk/high-reward research that could ultimately lead to critical discoveries or major advancements that will drive the field of ovarian cancer research forward.
Pre-application Submission Deadline: Tuesday, June 28, 2011 - 5 p.m.
Application Submission Deadline: Thursday, August 18, 2011 - 11:59 p.m.


The Translational Pilot Award - supports innovative translational research addressing a critical problem or question in ovarian cancer that will accelerate the movement of promising ideas toward clinical applications.
Pre-application Submission Deadline: Wednesday, June 8, 2011 - 5 p.m.
Application Submission Deadline: Thursday, August 18, 2011 - 11:59 p.m.


The Translational Leverage Award - supports the leveraging of existing human-based ovarian cancer resources in translational research to address high-impact research ideas or unmet needs in ovarian cancer.
Pre-application Submission Deadline: Wednesday, June 8, 2011 - 5 p.m.
Application Submission Deadline: Thursday, August 18, 2011 - 11:59 p.m.

The Teal Innovator Award - supports the recruitment of a "visionary individual" from any field principally outside of, but not exclusive of, ovarian cancer to focus their creativity, innovation, and leadership on ovarian cancer research.
Pre-application Submission Deadline: Wednesday, June 8, 2011 - 5 p.m.
Application Submission Deadline: Thursday, August 18, 2011 - 11:59 p.m.
