New Research Tool - The Hopkins Core Conduit

The Office of the Vice Dean is pleased to announce a new web tool that makes available research resources at your fingertips. The Hopkins Core Conduit http://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/
Research/ core_facilities/index.html
is a searchable database of 51 core facility service centers on campus available to all School of Medicine researchers. The new tool has functions that allow you to search facilities by name or by service.

NCRR Meeting: Moving Forward in the Efficient Management and Use of Core Facilities

NCRR held a meeting, November 15-16, 2010, Moving Forward in the Efficient Management and Use of Core Facilities. The meeting focused on:

  • Maximizing the use and efficiency of existing NIH-funded research core facilities.
  • Developing effective training programs for core facility directors.
  • Exploring software options for enhancing administrative management of core facilities.
  • Creating a national registry of core resources.
  • Standardizing compliance with OMB Circular A21.

Launch of New Service Center: BRB Behavioral Core

The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is glad to announce the launching of their new service center, the BRB Behavioral Core Facility. Effective January 1, 2011, researchers interested in behavioral phenotyping will have access to a variety of physiological and behavioral tests. Plans are also in place to have a technician available to run behavioral tests at an additional cost. Directed by Mikhail Pletnikov, MD/PhD, and coordinated by Jennifer Yocum, MA, the facility is able to support all your needs in behavioral phenotyping.

The BRB Behavioral Core would like to thank the Brain Sciences Institute (BSi) for their gracious financial support for the establishment of our Core, and for their continued support.

DNA Analysis Facility Services

The DNA Analysis Facility (http://daf.jhmi.edu) would like to announce two new services.

  1. We are now offering Pyrosequencing on a Pyromark Q24 machine. This service is ideal for quantitating mixed alleles in tumor and microbial samples, for looking at methylation, either using one of the thousands of predesigned assays or via a custom designed assay. For more details, see the pyrosequencing page of our website.
  2. We also have expanded our access to oligo synthesis companies. Our offerings now include Bioneer, IDT and Sigma-Genosys. Bioneer and IDT both offer long oligo synthesis (up to 200 bp) and gene synthesis at reasonable prices. All oligos can be pickup up in our facility or delivered to your door with your regular Core Store deliveries, all for lower prices and free shipping.
