Located within Suburban Hospital, our Behavioral Outpatient Mental Health Services program offers a comprehensive clinical continuum to provide the least restrictive, most effective level of care to individuals and their families. Our goals are to support a successful discharge from inpatient status or to avert hospitalization by providing intensive outpatient programming.
These services are intended to complement concurrent individual therapy. Clients need to be referred by a provider, Emergency Department or an inpatient unit.
Partial Hospitalization/ Intensive Outpatient Program
Clients appropriate for these programs are 18 years and older, have a mental health diagnosis and are able and willing to participate in a group therapy program.
The Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) are open Monday through Friday from 8:45am to 3:15pm. Lunch is provided. These programs are accredited and accept most insurance plans including Medicare and Medicaid.
The Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) is a five day a week program. The Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is three days per week Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
The PHP and IOP are 6½-hour programs. Each day is structured in the following way:
|8:45 a.m. - 9:30 a.m.||Assessment Group|
|9:40 a.m. - 10:40 a.m.||Process Group|
|11:05 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.||Art Therapy/ Skills|
|12:15 p.m. - 1:15 p.m.||Lunch with other group members|
|1:15 p.m. - 2:15 p.m.||Skills/ Psycho-educational group|
|2:25 p.m. - 3:15 p.m.||Wrap-up Group|
From an inpatient facility, the discharge planner will contact the staff at the program to coordinate a referral.
From the community, your provider (therapist, psychiatrist or primary care physician) will complete a referral form. You or your provider can request a referral form via fax or email by calling 301-896-2586. We also require a physical exam within the last 30 days. Once we have both the referral form and physical exam results, your information will be processed and referred with for an intake assessment.
Family Support Group
This group is open to family and significant others of the patients who are enrolled in the PHP or IOP. The groups meet every Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the group room in the 7th floor. This program is free of charge and is designed for family members to support each other and learn about the program.
