Breast Cancer, Cancer Survivorship, breast cancer clinical trials, toxicities of cancer therapies, hereditary breast cancer, triple negative breast ancer, physician-patient communications and racial disparities


Dr. Smith is a board-certified medical oncologist who is an assistant professor at  Johns Hopkins University and  a member of the Johns Hopkins Breast Cancer Program. She devotes her clinical practice exclusively to caring for breast cancer patients and has a particular focus on the unique issues faced by young breast cancer patients and on survivorship care. She also has interests in cancer genetics, cancer survivorship, minimizing toxicity of cancer treatments, physician-patient communication and clinical trials.

She was previously an assistant professor at Georgetown University and provided breast cancer care to patients at MedStar Washington Hospital Center where she was also the chair of the Cancer Committee, Dr. Smith has published in peer-reviewed journals and authored book chapters. She is the recipient of grants to further breast cancer research including the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Foundation Young Investigator Award in 2005 and the ASCO Foundation Merit Award in both 2005 and 2006. more
