Bone modeling and remodeling factors that result in proper bone growth and strength
Dr. Janet L. Crane is an assistant professor of pediatrics at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Her area of clinical expertise is pediatric endocrinology including treatment of diabetes and disorders in growth, thyroid, calcium/bone and puberty.
Dr. Crane recently began a bone health clinic that operates out of local community hospital Greater Baltimore Medical Center. The purpose of the clinic is to give pediatric patients one place to go for all their bone health needs.
She received her bachelor’s degree in nutritional science from the University of Missouri. In 2001, she joined the research laboratory of Dr. Emily Germain-Lee at Johns Hopkins University to study the rare endocrine disorder, Albrights Hereditary Osteodystrophy. She went on to complete her medical degree at the University of Maryland-Baltimore. She did a residency in pediatrics at Children''s Mercy Hospital and Clinics in Kansas City, Missouri, and then returned to Johns Hopkins University, where she completed a fellowship in pediatric endocrinology in 2013.
Dr. Crane focuses her research efforts on bone modeling and remodeling factors that result in proper bone growth and strength. The goal of her studies is to help identify therapeutic targets to enhance bone strength in children who have impaired growth or recurrent fractures.
