Background

Dr. Robert Kargon is the Willis K. Shepard Professor of the History of Science and holds a joint appointment in the history of medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. His research focuses on the history of science and technology in America, and science and social change. 

His long-range research program explores the second industrial revolution and its consequences in all aspects of modern life.  

Dr. Kargon received his M.S. in physics from Yale University and his Ph.D. in history from Cornell University. 

He is the author of World’s Fairs on the Eve of War and Urban Modernity: Cultural Innovation in the Second Industrial Revolution.
