National Board of Medical Examiners Selects Mayer to be USMLE Question Writer
R. Samuel Mayer, M.D., was honered by being named a question writer for the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) by the National Board of Medical Examiners® (NBME®). The NBME is an independent, not-for-profit organization that serves the public through its high-quality assessments of healthcare professionals
The USMLE assesses a physician's ability to apply knowledge, concepts, and principles, and to demonstrate fundamental patient-centered skills, that are important in health and disease and that constitute the basis of safe and effective patient care.
Dr. Mayer, a physiatrist with the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation since 2001, is vice chair for Education, deputy director of Quality Improvement, the director of Undergraduate Medical Education, and the residency program director of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. In addition, he is director of the Medical Student Summer Clinical Experience in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation for the Association of Academic Physiatrists. His clinical interests include complications of critical illness, spine disorders, pain management, disorders of muscle tone and cancer rehabilitation.
