Mayer earns award for the Medical Rehabilitation Council
R. Samuel Mayer, M.D., was awarded the 2012 American Academy of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation's Outstanding Council Service Award for the Medical Rehabilitation Council at the Annual Assembly in November.
The Outstanding Council Service Award was created in 2010 to recognize service and volunteerism of members who contribute to the success of the Academy in fulfilling its mission and serving its membership in ways not limited to research, education, and product development.
Dr. Mayer, a physiatrist with the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation since 2001, is vice chair for Education, deputy director of Quality Improvement, the director of Undergraduate Medical Education, and the residency program director of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. In addition, he is director of the Medical Student Summer Clinical Experience in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation for the Association of Academic Physiatrists. His clinical interests include complications of critical illness, spine disorders, pain management, disorders of muscle tone and cancer rehabilitation.
