Dr. Joseph Savitt received his medical degree and Ph.D. from the University of Maryland School of Medicine, where he remained to complete his internship in internal medicine. He then came to The Johns Hopkins Hospital for a residency and clinical fellowship in neurodegenerative disorders. 

Now an Assistant Professor of Neurology at Johns Hopkins, Dr. Savitt focuses on general movement disorders with a special emphasis on Parkinson’s disease and related conditions. He is involved in several clinical trials exploring new therapies for Parkinson’s disease. In addition, he has a special interest in the diagnosis and treatment of rare acquired and inherited cerebellar ataxias.

As a member of the Institute for Cell Engineering Dr. Savitt’s basic research interests include genetic modeling of Parkinson’s disease (PD), the use of stem cells to explore new therapies for PD and exploring the role that the natural chemical GDNF plays in the development and survival of those cells that are lost in PD.

Dr. Savitt currently sees patients at The Johns Hopkins Outpatient Center located in Baltimore on Wednesdays and Fridays.
