Dr. Frederick Lenz received his medical degree from the University of Toronto and was also trained through residency and fellowship at the University of Toronto.

Now a Professor of Neurosurgery and Director of Epilepsy Surgery at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, Dr. Lenz focuses on the surgical treatment of brain disorders where there is an abnormality of function without an anatomical abnormality like a brain tumor. Through his work, he has refined electrical monitoring techniques used in functional neurosurgery.

Dr. Lenz’s research focuses on the electrical signals that the brain makes during normal function and during disease. He particularly focuses on diseases where electrical activity of the brain is known to be abnormal, such as epilepsy or tremor. He also studies brain activity related to sensations such as touch, cold, and pain and to the control of movement.

Dr. Lenz currently sees patients at The Johns Hopkins Outpatient Center located in Baltimore on Tuesdays.
