Dr. John Laterra received his medical degree and Ph.D. from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. He went on to complete an internship in medicine and a residency in neurology at the University of Michigan. 

Now a Professor of Neurology, Oncology and Neuroscience and co-Director of the Brain Cancer Program at The Johns Hopkins Comprehensive Cancer Center, Dr. Laterra focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of patients with primary brain tumors and neurological complications of systemic cancer. Dr. Laterra is internationally recognized for his clinical expertise and research on mechanisms of brain tumor malignancy, tumor vascular biology and the identification of new therapeutic targets in gliomas. Dr. Laterra’s research is funded by the National Institutes of Health and numerous private foundations.

Dr. Laterra is also actively involved in the brain tumor community outside of Johns Hopkins. He is a charter member of The Society of Neuro-Oncology, an associate editor of the journal Neuro-Oncology and a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the American Brain Tumor Association. He is also a member of the New Approaches to Brian Tumor Therapy (NABTT) consortium, a group of collaborating brain tumor centers funded by the National Cancer Institute.

Dr. Laterra currently sees patients at the Johns Hopkins Outpatient Center on Thursdays.
