Columbia, MD – Howard CountyGeneral Hospital: A Member of Johns Hopkins Medicine (HCGH) announced recently that its Volunteer Auxiliary has pledged $300,000 in support of its Campus Development Plan. The Campus Development Plan is the largest patient-focused campus expansion and renovation in the history of the hospital. The Auxiliary presented its first payment of $100,000 to the hospital last month with the balance to be paid over the next four years.
Founded in 1972, the Volunteer Auxiliary is a group of nearly 600 individuals essential to the care provided at HCGH. In 2006, hospital volunteers contributed more than 56,000 hours doing jobs that would have cost the hospital over $1,000,000 if done by paid employees. In addition, the Auxiliary raises money to support the hospital through fundraising events. As Auxiliary President Alicia Slahetka explained, “we raise most of our funds through annual ‘service projects,' such as uniform, jewelry, leather handbag and book sales. Our goal is to raise money for the hospital, while providing its staff and the community with nice, high-quality products.” The Auxiliary also runs “Rave Reviews,” an upscale consignment shop in the Hickory Ridge Village Center, the annual “Garden of Lights” memorial garden and a holiday gift wrap booth at the Columbia Mall.
“We're very excited and grateful for the the Auxiliary's generous pledge,” said HCGH President and CEO Vic Broccolino. “Not only does this wonderful, dedicated group give its time on a day-to-day basis, but through their pledge they're also investing in the future of the hospital for the entire community.”
