More than 30 years ago, I had the good fortune to be one of the original in-patient employees for the brand new Columbia Hospital and Clinics Foundation; which later became Howard County General Hospital. The positive impression that I formed from my early health care experiences there clearly stayed with me; which is why I chose to return after a diverse nursing career throughout the Baltimore area. That newly formed HCGH gave me tuition reimbursement which launched my successful career as a nurse.
I returned to my hospital of origin for the Emergency Department; which gave me ability to care for both the patient and their family in a community based critical care setting. The ED gave me many opportunities to advance and grow. My practice encompassed Charge Nurse duties for our comprehensive 42 bed service, as well as work in all phases of care including my primary professional background; Psychiatry. The community based service we provide is strengthened by close ties with our EMS, Fire, and Police departments.
More recently; my career here has changed once more, as I have accepted the position of Nurse Manager for our In-patient Psychiatry Department. This opportunity allows me to have a strong connection with Maryland’s Psychiatric In-patient Consortium by sharing best practices for our community’s patients.
I feel that Howard county General Hospital’s services allow me to feel part of a family that is both intimate and diverse. Not only do I have a first name relationship with our Senior Management; I have a close and longstanding relationship and access to the entire Johns Hopkins Medical System. Who could ask for more than that?!
