The Johns Hopkins Burn Center is the only adult burn center in Maryland verified by the American Burn Association and designated by the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems as the specialty referral center for burn injured patients aged 15 and above. Opened in 1968, the center has a long history of providing high quality burn care to patients from Maryland and the surrounding region.
As a comprehensive burn center, we offer the latest research and technologies for the treatment of burn-related injuries. We also provide treatment for complicated skin and soft tissue injury, chronic non-healing wounds, and many other skin and tissue disorders. Our services include an inpatient burn intensive care unit (BICU) and burn/wound step-down unit, an outpatient burn wound clinic, and a scar revision clinic.
Our advanced burn care goes beyond the walls of the hospital. Our team of physicians, nurses, physical and occupational therapists, dietitians, social workers, and outreach and injury prevention specialists are available to help patients and their families as they go through burn injury recovery. The burn center also provides many resources to support burn survivors and their families as they transition back to daily life.
