Ultra-high Field (UHF) MRI Imaging in Epilepsy with Dr. Ahmad Marashly

Dr. Ahmad Marashly, Medical Director of Pediatric Epilepsy Surgery, reviews the literature on multi-modal imaging using ultra-high field (7 Tesla) MRI imaging and discusses the ongoing research here at Hopkins that focuses on optimizing the sequences used on the 7T MRI in order to maximize our ability to detect any subtle focal lesions.

Early Detection and Treatments for Alzheimer's with Dr. Marilyn Albert

Dr. Marilyn Albert shares the latest research at the Johns Hopkins Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center, including the use of biomarkers that have been derived from stem cells, cerebrospinal fluid, magnetic resonance, positron emission tomography, and genetics, to predict which individuals with normal cognition are likely to progress to mild cognitive impairment and dementia.

The Biological Basis for, and Management of, Drug-Induced Symptom Augmentation in Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS)

Although drugs that either increase dopamine (levodopa) or mimic dopamine in the brain (dopamine agonists) are highly effective treatments for Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS), chronic use has negative consequences. These agents, when used chronically, lead to drug-induced, worsening of the RLS symptoms, which has been coined “augmentation.” Dr. Christopher Earley reviews the biological changes in the dopaminergic system that best fit the clinical features of augmentation and discusses approaches in the diagnosis and management of augmentation.
