About the Wilmer Biostatistics Center

Services Provided

The WBC has in-house expertise in biostatistics, methodology and study design, along with a team of statisticians drawn from the Department of Biostatistics at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. The center's aim is to provide study planning and analytic resources to Wilmer Eye Institute faculty in a timely and cost-efficient manner.

Applying for Use

Investigators wishing to use the WBC must first complete an intake form that will be assigned to a WBC consultant. Consulting services are subsidized by core funds. Fees will apply to some services in order to maintain accessibility and support vital infrastructure and growth.

Access to Consulting

The WBC is accessible to all Wilmer faculty and their trainees. Responses to requests generally occur within 24 hours, and include scheduling of a meeting with the investigator to review

Requirements for Services

Our services require a partnership between the consultant and the investigator to yield an optimal research product. For the sustainability and improvement of the WBC, tracking of results in terms of grants and manuscripts is also critical. Therefore, we require that researchers agree to the following stipulations:

  • All manuscripts must cite the Wilmer Biostatistics Core Grant EY01765 in acknowledgements
  • All published manuscripts must be reported back to the WBC program manager with a PMCID number. It is the responsibility of the investigator to deposit the manuscript into PubMed Central if the journal does not provide that service. This responsibility falls on the senior investigator if the lead author is a trainee.
  • Statisticians performing the analysis or contributing to the writing should be included as authors on the manuscript. Consultants who advise on the study design or analytic plan can be included as authors at the discretion of the investigator.

Grant Support

The WBC can provide support throughout the grant development, data collection and analysis phases of a study. Contact us to discuss the scope of work and receive an estimate of cost for inclusion in your grant budget.
