World Sight Day 2018 at the Wilmer Eye Institute
World Sight Day is an annual day of awareness held on the second Thursday of October, to focus global attention on blindness and vision impairment.
Wilmer and World Sight Day
The mission of the Johns Hopkins Wilmer Eye Institute is to contribute to ophthalmic knowledge and to reduce suffering from blindness and vision loss locally and around the world, through leadership and excellence in research, education, and patient care. In honor of World Sight Day, Wilmer aims to raise global awareness on preventable blindness and vision impairment.
Celebrating World Sight Day at Wilmer
In honor of World Sight Day, Wilmer is raising funds to support the Dana Center Gift Fund, The Dana Center is a leader in global and domestic research on blindness prevention. It is the only World Health Organization Collaborating Center, contributing to the understanding and treatment of diseases throughout the world including: cataract and glaucoma as well as in nutritional blindness, onchocerciasis (River Blindness) and trachoma. Its mission is to prevent avoidable visual disability and blindness around the globe by conducting valuable research, using sound public health policies and programs, and training the next generation of leaders in public health ophthalmology.

Visit any one of the following Wilmer locations on Oct. 11, 2018- staff will be there to answer any questions you may have, provide educational materials on our research and patient care initiatives, and accept donations benefiting resident education:

Reddit Ask Me Anything with Wilmer Faculty and Residents
From 10:00a.m. - 2:00p.m., Wilmer will be hosting a virtual Ask Me Anything forum on Reddit to answer questions from users. We're especially excited to have Dana Center Director, Dr. David Friedman, joining us. We encourage participants to ask questions about the breadth of Wilmer's international work, such as our Ebola- and Zika-related research, or Dana Center's involvement with trachoma and cataracts in sub-Saharan Africa.
Here's how you can participate:
- Visit the Ask Me Anything Reddit page. You will be able to see the active AMA when it is slated to begin at 10:00a.m.
- You must have an account through Reddit, which can be created for free. If you already have an account, log in.
- Post a question you would like answered or vote on other participants’ questions you’d like to hear answered.
