"Interinstitutional Assurance"
Agreement (between Johns Hopkins and a company receiving an NIH research
award)
JHU faculty members often arrange to carry out portions of research
that involve the use of animals via an NIH-funded subcontract from
an NIH-awardee (often a private company) that does not itself have
an approved Animal Welfare Assurance on file with the NIH Office of
Laboratory Animal Welfare (OLAW). In such situations, OLAW requires
that the company apply for an "Interinstitutional Assurance,"
under which JHU assures that the research will be carried out under
the terms of its own OLAW-approved Animal Welfare Assurance.
Interinstitutional Assurance forms are processed by the JHU Animal
Care and Use Committee office. If you are handling completion of this
form, please contact the office at [email protected]
or call Ms. Vanessa Girton at 443-287-3739. The office will assist
in the accurate completion of the form and in obtaining both of the
required JHU signatures. Note that both the Institutional Official,
Dr. Denis Wirtz, and the IACUC Chair, Dr. Nancy Ator, have designated
individuals to OLAW that may sign in his/her stead. A sample form
may be downloaded at http://grants.nih.gov/grants/olaw/sampledoc/interinstitutional_
assurance.htm
