Head and neck surgeon Wojciech Mydlarz recaps an American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery Foundation 2024 annual meeting panel presentation about salivary gland cancer management for the community physician — from initial workup to biopsy results and treatment decisions. He highlighted the importance of noting changes on physical exam; understanding imaging results, preferably MRI; and taking a biopsy of the areas that are most dense. Plans for managing tumors will likely include surgery. Some form of reconstruction may be necessary due to the cosmetically sensitive nature of the area of these tumors.
