Dancing with the Hopkins Stars

Dancing with the Hopkins Stars was back for its third year on March 29 with an all-new cast of eight couples representing The Johns Hopkins Hospital and Health System, the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, the Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health, Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, and Johns Hopkins Community Physicians. Each couple chose a United Way program or nonprofit organization of choice to fundraise for leading up to event. As of the night of the event, more than $53,000 had been pledged for the causes.

After a spectacular show of performances ranging from a Disney-themed waltz, a modern dance with a live cellist, a human wrecking ball, a senior prom reenactment, a broadway special from Hairspray, a swinging foxtrot and two funky hip-hop dances, the audience voted for their favorite couple.

For the first time ever, a hearty congratulations is in order for Cindy Delinski, executive assistant in the school of medicine, and thoracic surgeon Stephen Yang, who took home the mirror-ball trophies for best dance performance and highest fundraising couple! They raised over $15,000 for United Way's Project Homeless Connect.

A special thank you to the judges for their entertaining comments throughout the night:

  • Mary Myers, president of Johns Hopkins Home Care Group
  • Steven Kravet, president of Johns Hopkins Community Physicians
  • Charles Reuland, executive vice president and COO of The Johns Hopkins Hospital and Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center
  • Hope Byers, institutional communications manager for Johns Hopkins Medicine, and one of the 2016 Dancing with the Hopkins Stars champions.

Additional thanks to the evening's hosts Justin McArthur, director of the Department of Neurology, and Darren Brownlee, assistant administrator for the Department of Medicine, as well as emcee Sandy Johnson, training and education coordinator for general services.
