The Johns Hopkins Hospital General Services Office of Sustainability promotes environmental sustainability throughout the hospital. We are committed to avoiding harm to human health, promoting a safe patient atmosphere, and improving environmental quality by enhancing policies, programs, and practices for all of the hospital’s business activities.
Our goal is to create a culture of sustainability in decision- making, planning and actions. We hope you will adopt green practices in the workplace, at home and in the community.
Keeping it Green @ Hopkins
The Green Team is a grassroots and cross-functional group of employees who meet regularly to build a "green" community within The Johns Hopkins Hospital where employees can learn, share, and create sustainable programs.
The Green Team comes together to recognize, support and partner in sustainable activities, such as storm drain stenciling, neighborhood cleanups, and protecting the Chesapeake Bay.
In addition, initiatives are identified that align and promote environmental sustainability throughout the hospital to decrease the amount of waste through reuse, repurposing and recycling.
The certification program creates a platform to recognize and support sustainability champions who engage colleagues and encourage departmental sustainability efforts that minimize environmental impacts throughout everyday workflow.

Members of the Green Team partner with local nonprofit community organizations to participate in green or sustainable activities such as storm drain stenciling to raise awareness about discarding waste appropriately and protecting the Chesapeake Bay, and neighborhood cleanups that encourage residents to keep a clean and safe environment.
Green Team members are invited to participate in on-site and off-site tours that highlight sustainable workflows, programs or initiatives within The Johns Hopkins Hospital and other local businesses or organizations.
Local and sustainable produce and prepared foods are sold at a weekly farmers market organized for hospital staff and community members. The market, typically held May through October on the East Baltimore campus between the Johns Hopkins Outpatient Center and the Cancer Research Building, features free electronics recycling, health fairs and events focused on spreading awareness of healthy recipes through cooking demonstrations.
Community Supported Agriculture
As a host site for the community Supported agriculture (CSA) program, The Johns Hopkins Hospital connects local farmers with employees, staff members and students, who can order shares of fresh produce and pick up their items at the JHH farmers market.
