Division of Acute Care Surgery

Johns Hopkins Hospital

Treating remarkably ill and injured patients at The Johns Hopkins Hospital and Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, the Johns Hopkins Department of Surgery’s Division of Acute Care Surgery includes faculty who specialize in trauma surgery, emergency general surgery, surgical critical care, elective general surgery, trauma systems, and surgical research and education. Patients are treated by a team of experienced surgeons rather than a single practitioner, and an acute care surgeon from the division remains in the hospital to treat emergencies as they arise every hour of every day.

With partners in emergency medicine, anesthesiology, orthopedic surgery, neurosurgery, and many other specialties, the acute care surgeons at Johns Hopkins work constantly as a multidisciplinary team to ensure patients receive the right care at the right time.

Additionally, the Division is home to the Surgical Critical Care and Acute Care Surgery Fellowships, training surgeons who have completed their general surgery residencies in the care of the sickest surgical patients in the hospital and immediate interventions in acutely ill and injured patients.
