Suburban Hospital Joint Center Awarded Certification from The Joint Commission

Bethesda, Md., December 23rd, 2011 – Suburban Hospital in Bethesda has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval™ for its Joint Center.

A team of surveyors from The Joint Commission evaluated Suburban Hospital for compliance with standards of care specific to the needs of patients and families, including infection prevention and control, leadership and medication management. Suburban Hospital is the only hospital inMontgomery County to achieve the Gold Seal of Approval™ by The Joint Commission for its joint replacement program.  It is also one of only a few hospitals in the greater Washington, DC region to have achieved this certification by The Joint Commission.

Patrick Caulfield, M.D., medical director of The Suburban Hospital Joint Replacement Program. “Certification by The Joint Commission is a testament to the unrelenting pursuit by our team to create the safest, most successful and highest quality joint replacement experience for our patients.”  

The Suburban Hospital Joint Replacement Program, established in 2005, is noted for its favorable outcomes in length of stay and minimal complications following surgical procedures. The program is based on a patient-focused approach on joint education and support. The Joint Center performs more than 900 procedures annually, the most of any hospital in Montgomery County.
