Suburban Hospital Honored with Women’s Choice Award for Stroke Care

Suburban Hospital has earned the Women’s Choice Award® for America’s Best Stroke Center for 2015. This distinction is awarded to hospitals that carry the certification of an Advanced Primary Stroke Center or Advanced Comprehensive Stroke Center by The Joint Commission combined with achieving above average patient recommendations.

According to the Women’s Choice Award organization, the Women’s Choice Award is the only recognition that integrates clinical excellence and patient experience.

Since its inception in late 1999, the NIH Stroke Center at Suburban Hospital has been dedicated to researching the most effective ways to diagnose and treat stroke using new technologies and drugs. With physician-scientists from the National Institutes of Health(NIH) working side-by-side with Suburban Hospital clinicians, the Suburban Hospital Stroke Program assures access to the most advanced medical protocols and cutting-edge technology.This collaborative effort was the first acute stroke treatment program in Montgomery County to receive certification as a Primary Stroke Center from The Joint Commission. More recently, The Suburban Hospital Stroke Program was named a specialty referral center for stroke by the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems.

In 2014, Suburban received the Get With The Guidelines®—Stroke Gold-Plus Quality Achievement Award for implementing specific quality improvement measures outlined by the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association for treating stroke patients.
