Gene E. Green, M.D., has been appointed president of Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, a member of Johns Hopkins Medicine (JHM). He will succeed Brian Gragnolati, who will now transition full time into his role of senior vice president for the Johns Hopkins Health System, where he oversees the Community Division, which includes Suburban, Sibley Memorial and Howard County General hospitals.

Suburban Hospital in Bethesda was one of only four hospitals in the greater Washington, DC region to receive top ratings for inpatient care and simple and complex emergency care from Washington Consumers’ CHECKBOOK. The ratings were based on patient and physician feedback as well as clinical data including risk-adjusted mortality and how often the hospital followed evidence-based treatment criteria for specific clinical conditions.

Suburban Hospital’s Joint Replacement Center has been designated a UnitedHealth Premium Total Joint Replacement specialty center by United Health, This recognition is based on an assessment of best practices that measures criteria such as the number of total joint procedures per year, readmission rates for each procedure and inpatient mortality. The Joint Center earned “Two Stars” in its quality assessment and a “Higher Efficiency” rating for cost efficiency.

Suburban Hospital has been awarded a three-year accreditation by the American College of Radiology (ACR). Ultrasound imaging, also known as sonography, uses high-frequency sound waves to produce images of internal body parts to help providers diagnose illness, injury or other medical issues.

The Suburban Hospital Breast Center has been granted a full three-year accreditation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a program administered by the American College of Surgeons.   Accreditation by the NAPBC is only given to those centers that have voluntarily committed to provide the highest level of quality breast care and that undergo a rigorous evaluation process and review of their performance.
