    • First Thursdays at Mt Vernon Park Time: 5:30pm - 9:00pm Location: Peabody Institute, West Mt. Vernon Park Details:

      Take the JHMI Shuttle to Peabody. First Thursdays Concerts in the Park bring thousands of music lovers to West Mt. Vernon Park to experience live music surrounded by historic architecture, family and friends. And all for free! Just look for the monument and listen for the music!  The shows start at 5:30 and run till about 8:45. Food and drink are available and you’re welcome to bring lawn chairs, your own food, and friends for these free shows.

      Come to the Johns Hopkins Medicine town meeting to learn more about:

      • Research on metabolism-based therapies for epilepsy
      • One patient’s vascular surgery experience

      Paul B. Rothman, dean of the medical faculty and CEO of Johns Hopkins Medicine, and Ronald R. Peterson, president of The Johns Hopkins Hospital and Health System and EVP of Johns Hopkins Medicine, will share recent appointments, promotions and awards and other news.

       

      Peter Pronovost, senior vice president for patient safety and quality, will share information regarding the new core-measure metrics for patient safety and quality. Adam Hartman, assistant professor of neurology, pediatrics, and molecular microbiology and immunology, and director of basic epilepsy research in the Pediatric Epilepsy Division, will discuss the ketogenic diet, intermittent fasting and Johns Hopkins’ latest work on amino acid therapy.

       

      The town meeting will be simulcast live to Johns Hopkins HealthCare in the Deer Creek (Suite B) Conference Room, Johns Hopkins at Keswick in the Keswick Auditorium, Howard County General Hospital in the Medical Library, and Suburban Hospital in the Suburban Hospital Auditorium.

      Despite tremendous efforts and enthusiasm to reduce preventable harm, the science of improving patient safety remains in its infancy, with few examples of widespread success. To significantly accelerate the pace of progress, the Armstrong Institute, in conjunction with the World Health Organization, will be convening patient safety experts and thought leaders from all sectors that influence health care at the inaugural Forum on Emerging Topics in Patient Safety.

    • Stethoscope Ceremony and Reception Time: 6:00pm - 8:00pm Location: Armstrong Medical Education Building Details:

      On September 24, the Class of 2017 will gather to receive a welcoming gift - an engraved stethoscope. The ceremony, co-hosted by the Johns Hopkins Medical & Surgical Association, sets the tone for the rest of their experience at Johns Hopkins. Alumni and faculty will join the celebration to share stories of their medical school experiences.
