Help Our Students Travel (HOST) program

The Help Our Students Travel (HOST) program provides a wonderful opportunity to build lifelong connections between Johns Hopkins medical students and alumni. The HOST program helps fourth-year medical students at Johns Hopkins reduce their expenses on the road to residency by connecting them with alumni near their interview sites. This is an exciting and meaningful chance to volunteer for the university and stay engaged with the school of medicine and its current students. Alumni will share their experiences and insights, while the students can offer their unique perspectives and updates on the medical school.

From September to February, alumni HOSTs may offer students lodging for 1-2 nights, meals, and/or transportation.

Taking part in our HOST Program this year will count towards Experience 125, our celebration of 125 years of the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Please remember to take a picture with your host with this printable banner and email us

Alumni who volunteer to be a HOST may do one or more of the following:

  • Provide overnight accommodations for student
  • Offer students transportation and tours of the city
  • Speak with students who have questions about the residency program or the community where they are interviewing

The Office of Alumni Relations will:

  • Contact alumni HOSTs and secure their interest and availability
  • Provide students with the alumni HOST's information
  • Provide alumni HOST with student’s information

Students are expected to:

  • Promptly contact the alumni HOST and share details of travel and interview plans
  • Notify alumni HOST if plans change, or an interview is rescheduled
