Neurosurgery

The Division of Neurological Surgery at Sibley Hospital offers state of the art treatment for all aspects of neurosurgical diseases of the spine and spinal cord. Often aided by the use of the most up-to-date operating microscope, multiple techniques are used for treatment of various spine and spinal cord surgical problems. These range from the anterior approach to the cervical spine with and without fusion, the posterior approach to the cervical spine with and without fusion, as well as various approaches to the thoracic and lumbar spin, including instrumentation.. Minimally invasive techniques for surgery on the spine are available. Although elective craniotomies are not performed at this time, craniotomies for emergency procedures such as subdural hematomas, epidural hematomas and penetrating wounds of the brain are available. Surgery on the peripheral nerves in the upper and lower extremities as well as carpal tunnel surgery is also done on a routine basis. Various shunting procedures for hydrocephalus as well as cosmetic procedures for cranioplasty are offered as well.

The Neurosurgical Service at Sibley Memorial Hospital is not a teaching service. Consequently, all procedures are performed in their entirety by the attending neurosurgeon. Neurological surgeons on staff at Sibley Hospital include:
