Pediatric Residency Duty Hours

Night and weekend coverage for most rotations is provided by a “night team” of residents who relieve the day teams at 7:00 p.m. and remain until approximately 8:00 a.m., when sign-out is completed the next morning. Residents are assigned to night teams for periods of one to two weeks at a time, and the total assignment to night teams is five to six weeks per year.

During rotations in the Harriet Lane Clinic, the Adolescent Clinic, Child Behavior, and during one elective block in the PL-2 and PL-3 year, residents are assigned to the Pediatric Emergency Department on some weekends and evenings.

ACGME guidelines regarding duty hours are strictly maintained.
