  • Christian Merlo Lab

    Principal Investigator:
    Christian Merlo, M.D., M.P.H.
    Medicine

Work in the Christian Merlo Lab includes studies on pulmonary arteriovenous malformations, outc...omes in lung transplantation and treatment of cystic fibrosis (CF), and HIV-related pulmonary disease. We have studied methods of diagnosing and managing pulmonary arteriovenous malformations as well as the outcomes of adult CF patients who are infected with multiple antibiotic-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Our recent research has also explored recipient and donor variables in the success or failure of lung transplants, and ways in which national healthcare delivery systems impact lung transplant outcomes for CF patients. view more

Research Areas: cystic fibrosis, pulmonary arteriovenous malformations, HIV, lung disease, lung transplant
  • Edward Kraus Lab

    Principal Investigator:
    Edward Kraus, M.D.
    Medicine

Dr. Kraus’ team investigates the factors that impact the long-term success or failure of kidney... transplants as well as barriers to nephrology care and transplants in minority populations. We research many topics dealing with kidney transplant rejection, including diagnostic criteria, infection risk and incompatibility factors. Our lab also has a longstanding interest in pancreas transplants and has conducted research to establish guidelines for diagnosing antibody-mediated rejection of pancreas allografts-updated Banff grading schema. view more

Research Areas: kidney transplants, nephrology, health disparities, pancreas transplants
  • Elham Afghani Lab

    Principal Investigator:
    Elham Afghani, M.D., M.P.H.
    Medicine

The Elham Afghani Lab performs clinical research on pancreatic auto islet transplants, pancreat...ic cancer, pancreatic cysts, and pancreatitis. view more

Research Areas: pancreatic cancer, Pancreatic Auto Islet Transplant, pancreatitis, Pancreatic Cysts
  • Pali Shah Lab

    Principal Investigator:
    Pali Shah, M.D.
    Medicine

Research in the Pali Shah Lab focuses on lung transplants. Specifically, we’re interested in ch...ronic rejection and quality and safety as they relate to lung transplants. view more

Research Areas: health care quality, pulmonary medicine, safety, lung transplant
  • Pankaj Jay Pasricha Lab

    Principal Investigator:
    Jay Pasricha, M.B.B.S., M.D.
    Medicine

Researchers in the Pankaj Jay Pasricha Lab are interested in the molecular mechanisms of viscer...al pain and restoration of enteric neural function with novel strategies, including neural stem cell transplants. Recent research has focused on the enteric nervous system and gut-brain axis, and the complexity of pain in chronic pancreatitis. Another recent study indicates that patients with underlying small intestinal bacterial overgrowth have significant delays in small bowel transit time as compared to those without, while another explored the safety and efficacy of carbon dioxide cryotherapy for treatment of neoplastic Barrett's esophagus. view more

Research Areas: gastroenterology, stem cells, neurogastroenterology, pancreatitis, pain, Barrett's esophagus, motility disorders
