  • Sean Tackett Lab

Research in the Sean Tackett Lab explores methods for assessing and improving medical education. Our recent work has included the design of an evaluation framework for World Federation of Medical Education basic standards for medical education. We also have participated in a student-driven initiative to develop a global health education program at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

Research Areas: medical education, global health

  • Virginia Weaver Lab

The Virginia Weaver Lab uses molecular epidemiology tools to evaluate chemically exposed populations. We explore the validation of exposure and early biological effect markers for research and medical surveillance. Our primary research area is the effects of occupational and environmental toxicants on the kidney. We are currently investigating how metals affect kidney function, examining in particular clinical measures and early biological effect markers, including urinary N-acetyl-beta-D-glucosaminidase. Our studies have involved populations of lead workers in South Korea and environmentally exposed adolescents in Mexico.

  • William Weiss Lab

The William Weiss Lab studies the monitoring, assessment and evaluation of international health care programs, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. Our research uses health informatics, rapid-assessment methods, mobile health applications and surveillance systems to investigate the access to health care—in particular mental health services—in populations experiencing trauma due to violence and natural disaster. Study populations include Syrian refugee children in Jordan, survivors of torture and militant attacks in Southern Iraq and survivors of natural disasters such as the Pakistan floods, the Haiti earthquake and the Indonesian tsunami.

  • Zishan Siddiqui Lab

Research in the Zishan Siddiqui Lab focuses on patient-centered care and satisfaction, preoperative medicine and clinical reasoning. We are also interested in international medicine. In a previous collaboration with Daniel Brotman, M.D., we discovered that hospital renovations do not improve patient satisfaction.

Research Areas: global health, health care quality, patient-centered health care
