Cellular Sentinel Prevents Cell Division When Danger Present

Centrioles anchor the “ropes” that pull chromosomes into their new cells during cell division. Researchers recently learned that most cells will not divide without centrioles. Why? The protein p53, already known to prevent cell division for other reasons, also monitors centriole numbers to prevent potentially disastrous cell divisions.
