Study Design

A large variety of imaging studies are performed in our facility. It is important that the study design for each study be communicated effectively to the imaging technicians. PET studies may be static, dynamic, whole body or even whole body dynamic! Other variables include the study duration, attenuation correction and the use of cardiac gating. SPECT studies employ an assortment of parallel and pinhole collimators. The size of the animal (mouse, rat, rabbit) can also affect the radius of rotation for SPECT and CT scanning. The exact parameters of the study acquisition need to be written explicitly so that the technicians may perform the study as planned. For that purpose, the investigator must fill out a study design form and submit the form to at least two working days prior to the study, which is sufficient time to ensure the study logistics are in place.
