An important part of our mission is to advance state-of-the-art patient care through research. Biomedical research distinguishes an academic medical center from other hospitals, and the Division of Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine is further distinguished by the breadth and depth of our research program.

We benefit from strong collaborations between our colleagues within Johns Hopkins, and with experts from around the world. Our yearly research budget, which exceeds $20 million, is generously supported by grants from the National Institutes of Health, foundations, medical specialty societies and individual donors.

Research Focus Areas

Our research projects vary from societal aspects of medicine such as health care disparities, down to the level of genetic and molecular mechanisms of disease.
